Fly fishing is a beautiful and exciting sport, but it can also be very frustrating when you’re starting out or working on new techniques. Private instruction is an essential part of any successful angler’s strategy. Think about it. If you want to be a great tennis player what do you do? You take tennis lessons. If you want to play the piano at Carnegie Hall, where do you start? You take piano lessons. Fly fishing is the same way, if you want to advance your skills, you take lessons. Sure, you can buy a book and try to teach yourself, but why not have one of our instructors work with you one on one, so you advance quickly, and get out on the water.

In fly fishing, the cast is the most crucial part. This is where you will either slam the rod down in frustration and never pick it up again, or stand in awe as you watch your loops unfold in perfect harmony. Once you have your cast down, you’ll be able to learn and expand your knowledge every time you’re on the water. If you can’t cast, there is no where to advance to.

We structure our private lessons to be convenient to your schedule. Our instructor will meet you at one of the urban lakes that we teach at, either in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale, or Peoria, depending on your location. We will teach you casting basics so you can feel comfortable on your own when you go fishing, or we can work with you on advanced casts to expand your repertoire.

If you have your own fly rod and reel, we encourage you to bring it to your lesson, so you can get comfortable with the rod you will be fishing with. If you haven’t made a rod purchase yet, or if you want to try some different rods out, we will provide fly rods and reels of different varieties for you to use.

The Hook Up only uses the finest equipment. Our light tackle and bass fishing trips are outfitted with G.Loomis rods, Shimano reels, and the latest tackle and gear fresh off the tournament trail. Our fly fishing trips are outfitted with top of the line Orvis gear, including rods, reels, line, leaders, waders, boots, and flies. We offer the finest fleet of boats in Arizona, including 20 and 21 foot tournament rigged bass boats and 24 foot tournament rigged bay boats. All of our adventures include use of our gear and equipment.

The Hook Up is a fully insured and permitted guide service, carrying special use permits from the Tonto, Apache/Sitgreaves, Coconino, Coronado, Kaibab, and Prescott National Forests and the Maricopa County Park and Recreation Department. With permitted access to more water than any other outfitter in the state, the only problem that might arise is deciding on a fishing location to start your adventure. All of our guides are licensed through the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and are fully certified in first aid and CPR.

The Hook Up takes you to Arizona’s most spectacular places. Our tournament proven guides are not only expert fishermen, but are also experts on the flora and fauna of the desert, as well as on the native history of Arizona, and are excited to share their knowledge with you.

*Trophy fish are a valuable resource that needs all of our help to survive. The Hook Up requires 100% catch and release of all sport fish species. Our guides are equipped with scales and measuring tapes to certify your catch, and we would be glad to help you arrange a replica mount of any fish. We do allow you to keep any non-sport species, up to the legal limit, at your guides discretion.

Confirmation & Travel Voucher

For every confirmed booking you will receive an e-mail with a link to your E-Ticket Voucher. Print vouchers on your home/ office printer. Please present this E-Ticket voucher at the Box Office. Only one voucher will be created per tour or activity for all travelers.

This tour must be booked at least 24 hours in advance of your travel date. Your confirmation for this product will be received within 12- 24 hours subject to availability.

Cancellation and No Show Policy

Cancellations within 24 hours of the tour are charged in full. Cancellations prior to 24 hours are charged a minimum $10.00 per person administration fee. We charge for NO SHOWS. No Shows on tour dates are charged 100%. Some specific tours and activities have a higher cancellation fee due to the limited space available.

Recommended for all tours in Phoenix: Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, hats, visors and sunglasses.

Weather: Tour route or activity may be changed depending on local weather conditions.

Meals, Gratuities and Souvenirs are NOT included.
